Transitional Housing

There are three types of Transitional Housing programs: Transitional Housing Program (THP), Transitional Housing Program & Extended Foster Care (THP+FC), and Transitional Housing Placement Program (THPP) which allow a young person to live independently.


  • Successfully assist youth with their transition into adulthood and related responsibilities
  • Assist youth with building sustainability skills


  • Family and friends are the youth’s best resources
  • Experiencing consequences is vital to learning


  • 17 or 18 years of age
  • Currently in foster or group care
  • With support of County Social Worker and County ILP Worker and Coordinator

THP+ Foster Care

  • 18 to 21 years of age
  • Non-minor dependent
  • Support of: County Social Worker, County ILP Worker, and County ILP Coordinator

THPP (Butte County Only)

  • 18 to 24 years of age
  • Youth no longer in foster care
  • ILP Coordinator maintains the waiting list


  • Offers guidance and support to youth
  • Selected by the young adult

Transitional Housing Team:

  • CSD Worker and ILP Worker
  • Youth & Family Social Worker and Licensing Coordinator
  • Friends and Mentors
